Simply Pawsitive Obedience and Agility Training
As a dog owner, you know that no two dogs are exactly alike. This training program has been developed with that in mind. Methods are based on an understanding of canine behaviour - how dogs learn, think and communicate with us and with each other. The use of motivational techniques and positive reinforcement encourage the dogs to learn willingly. The classes are designed to teach you, the owner, how to train your dog so that when the classes are over, you can continue to work with your dog toward whatever goals you may set, confident in your ability to communicate effectively with your canine companion. After all, it is you that must live with your dog, not the instructor!
I offer seminars, private instruction and behaviour consultations as well as group classes. If you prefer individual attention or require help solving behaviour problems, one-to-one instruction can be tailored to meet your specific needs and appointments can be booked to fit your schedule. Call or email me for details.
I am a firm believer that learning must be positive, regardless of whether you are human or animal. I personally would not want to learn something by being punished for making the wrong choice. That would end up making me afraid of learning, and of trying to do anything at all. If we can't learn well that way, how can we expect our dogs to learn that way?
A fundamental part of teaching our dogs should be developing a dog that loves to learn and isn't afraid to make a mistake--after all, part of learning is making mistakes! Developing a dog that loves to learn allows you to build a wonderful working relationship with your dog. Once you have that, you can acheive whatever goals you have--whether your goal is to have a well mannered family pet, that is well-behaved at home and in public, or whether it is to have a highly motivated and accomplished 'performance' dog in any of the canine sports such as agility, obedience, or rally, or whether it is to have a wonderful and important addition as an assistance dog with someone who faces the challenges of living with disabililties.
I am dedicated to continual improvement in my training programs and continual development of myself as a professional trainer. I regularly attend workshops and seminars given by the top professionals in North America and Europe. I also compete in obedience, tracking, agility and rally myself. This allows me to bring the most up-to-date training techniques to my classes. I am also a member of the Canadian Association of Professional Pet Dog Trainers, the American Association of Pet Dog Trainers and a judge with the Agility Association of Canada.
